Jacksonville Election Day: Atlantic Beach Tabulator Failure

A tabulator, the machine used to count ballots, unexpectedly broke at the Community Presbyterian Church polling location in Atlantic Beach Tuesday morning. Election workers reported the failure and election staff responded on site. Duval Supervisor Jerry Holland said poll workers used the machine's emergency slot so ballots dropped into a locked compartment to be fed into a replacement tabulator after polls close. Turning to local turnout, Action News Jax reports Democrats have cast nearly 27,000 more votes than Republicans in Duval County. Those early totals remain unofficial until they are certified. Local Democrats see that edge as significant for close races, including school board runoffs. And if you're heading out today, Duval County polls are open from 7 in the morning to 7 in the evening. Mandarin voters are voting during those hours.
